hey y’all

performing is hard

not every performance is going to be perfect and nothing will ever be as good as it was in the practise room.

don’t beat yourself up ok?

a bad performance is not a sign to quit.

your friends and family still love you after a bad performance – they’re still so proud of you.

you’re still a brilliant and inspirational musician after a bad performance.

No matter what, you never deserve abuse.

  • You never deserve abuse because you’re too needy or clingy
  • You never deserve abuse because you “let it happen” or “didn’t fight back” or “didn’t stand up for yourself”
  • You never deserve abuse because you “let it get this far” or you “stayed this long”
  • You never deserve abuse because your abuser is your mother or father, sister or brother, other family member, your boyfriend, girlfriend, fiancée, husband, or wife
  • You never deserve abuse because you have a particular mental or physical illness
  • You never deserve abuse because you’re “too emotional”
  • You never deserve abuse because you were “asking for it”
  • You never deserve abuse even though you’ve made mistakes, or said something wrong, or haven’t understood something, or can’t remember something
  • You never deserve abuse for being “too much” or “not good enough”
  • You never deserve abuse for having off days or being vulnerable sometimes
  • You never deserve abuse for asking for help
  • You never deserve abuse, no matter how many times and how many ways your abuser justifies it or makes excuses for it.

that writer feel when you know you’ll be better at writing in a year or five years and you want to wait to write That Story until you’re better but you know you have to write to get better in the first place so it’s a goddamn catch 22

This is why I think there’s not really a big problem if you’re one of those people who struggle to finish writing a novel.  You might be struggling for an excellent reason – like you need to mature more so that you know what your characters should do.

There are many flavors of writer’s block, and one of them is definitely “I’m not yet who I need to be to write this story”

But the way I figure, you never know until you try–so why wait? Even if you’re not who you need to be at the beginning, you might grow into that person by the end

Dear creators:

Can I just give a big, bold THANK YOU, to all the artists out there who freely contribute to fandom?  I know you have zero obligation to give us all these lovely pieces of your heart, and sometimes–often–you are taken for granted, and expected to churn out new works without any compensation, and without any promise of positive reception.  You put yourself out there, and give us these wonderful homemade gifts, often at risk of receiving negative feedback and criticism, and demands for more or better.  I just want you to know, I love your work, I am grateful for your contributions, and you deserve all my thanks and more.

Writers:

Thank you for all the beautiful fanfic, poetry, music, and more–it is a privilege to be given the chance to explore all the little facets of our favorite characters, whether it be fluffy and tropey, or surprising and unexpected.  All the research and planning and outlining; drafting, editing, more editing… just… thank you.

Artists:

Thank you for your gorgeous images; for bringing life to the beauty inside our heads that we would otherwise never get to see; for surprising us with something new that we never expected; for the hours of labor to get it just right, and those extra touches that really make the artwork shine.

Giffers:

Thank you for giving us the pleasure of reliving our favorite moments in fandom, and for creating beautifully animated works of art.  For the unique color palettes and exciting editing that breathes new life into those moments.

Moodboard Makers:

Thank you for bringing color and emotion together in beautiful collages that make us see our fandom in ways we never have before; for creating AUs and new stories, and offering new angles to our favorite characters with your beautiful compilations.

Cosplayers:

Thank you for stunning the world with your beautiful costumes and elaborate makeup, and for putting up with all the discomfort, because it is wonderful to see our favorite characters brought to life.

Crafters:

Thank you for your beautiful and surprising creations that blow us away every time we see them.  What you create is unexpected and rare.  We never see it coming, and it rocks our world.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
