don’t vote for the best candidate.

vote for the one most likely to remove a republican.

it’s that simple.

Vote them out.

Vote for the candidate that sees every person as a human being.

not if they can’t win, buddy. i’m serious. LISTEN. VOTE OUT THE REPUBLICANS. EVEN IF THAT MEANS VOTING IN SOME REGULAR ASSHOLES.

if the candidate who sees every person as a human being is green party, then you vote for the democrat who sees every person as a stepping stone, because unless we get rid of the republican who sees every person as a target a lot of us are going to goddamn die. people are dying already. like, not to guilt you, but if we don’t get a democratic majority in the house and senate ASAP we’re screwed.

it doesn’t fucking matter if you voted for Jesus Actual Christ if he was running on a penny ante party ticket. we need you to vote for Joe Slick Bastard Democrat instead, because there is no such thing as a green party majority in the senate, do you understand? there will not be a green party speaker of the house. green party will not get to put up supreme court nominees.

if you vote for the Good People instead of the democrats, we’re gonna end up back in this toilet bowl again, only deeper this time because the republicans will take it as a mandate to do whatever they want.

take a deep breath, put on rubber gloves, and touch the poop. don’t be precious.

In the primary you vote for the best candidate. In the general you vote for the person who can remove the Republican. You have your chance to do both.

In the primary you vote for the best candidate. In the general you vote for the person who can remove the Republican.

I read on another post “this is about setting the difficulty of our boss battle for the next two years” and that is absolutely true.  You’re not voting for someone you agree with, you’re not voting for someone who is perfect or great or even good.

You are voting for the person who is a) going to get elected and b) is easiest to fight for what you need.  Until we move the needle, the best we can expect is ‘the best of all enemies’ and not ‘an ally’.

VOTE OUT THE REPUBLICANS. EVEN IF THAT MEANS VOTING IN SOME REGULAR ASSHOLES.

uhhhh no offense but think about what you say to kids because like… when I was a kid all I heard was my friends saying “no one wants to hear you sing shut up” until fifth grade I was singing under my breath “we will rock you” by KISS because I had one of those toothtunes toothbrushes that played it and my teacher stopped me and was like… do that again. And I thought I was in trouble because no one wanted to hear me sing so I didn’t at first but she kinda coaxed me into it and once I sang it she was like “that’s good! That’s actually really good, sorry, I’m a little surprised! Wow!” And it literally changed my whole life I immediately ran off to try and join the talent show (I was too late) and I did honor choir and joined choir in 6th grade and here I am now, doing a bachelors in music education with an emphasis in voice, and looking at doing my masters in musical theater performance. I owe literally everything to the fact that my 5th grade math/homeroom teacher stopped me and made me sing a little for her and took that time to tell me that I was good at it. That was a 2 minute interaction that I doubt she even remembers but it literally changed my entire life.

tl;dr: the things you say can have the most profound effect on a kids life. Think about what you’re saying the next time you tell a kid something. You never know if that 30 second interaction is going to affect their life forever, so why not make it a good one, huh?

my favorite thing about all this ao3 discourse are all these people going “we don’t care what you write sweatie we just want you to write it somewhere else, why can’t you go make an archive of your own to post all your nasty fics on?” because the level of ignorance in basic fandom history shown right there is just astounding.

y’all realize that nasty fic writers already did that, right?

y’all realize we already made our own archive to post what we want without fear of another strike-through happening to us, right?

y’all realize that archive we made is literally ao3, right????

by demanding that the people who ao3 was l i t e r a l l y made by and for stop using the site and go somewhere else you’re pretty much performing the fandom equivalent of being invited into someone’s house and then five minutes into the visit screaming at them to get out of your home and find somewhere new to live.

that is what y’all sound like.

#i mean i know they don’t realize it because that would require them to have self awareness #but i’m just saying #if you hate the site that much??? leave? #i literally don’t understand how you can claim to be so morally and ethically opposed to a site #and an organization and yet #continue to support them when it is WELL within your power to stop doing that #if i actually believed any of the shit these people said about ao3? i wouldn’t use this site point fucking blank #if they were guilty of the shit these antis claim they are? #you could not pay me to use ao3 #but y’all apparently have such strong moral convictions about this and yet… #you’re willing to compromise them for what? access to fic? #you claim this site literally facilitates the abuse of children but #your need for fic is prioritized over that? #i don’t get that mindset AT ALL #i don’t get how you can ACTUALLY believe even half of what y’all are saying about ao3 #and continue to use the site #i sure as fuck would not be able to

Exhibit no 5786737 in the ‘a lot of these people don’t actually believe the majority of the shit they spew, they just fling fuckery at the wall until something sticks’ collection. They crave social power, they’re obsessed with getting their hands on it – and the easiest way to do it, they’ve found, it to bully other marginalized people out of fandoms and take over entire social-spaces with their unhinged shrieking. Most of their accusations are purely the method through which they accomplish that.

Antis in a nutshell. Thank you.

just once I want to see a good post critiquing makeup culture that doesn’t turn out to be made by some janky radfem blog

oh hey!! I’m not a janky radfem I can do it myself!

makeup culture is wack and normalizes a ludicrously high bar as the bare minimum women can do. I saw a “lazy"makeup tutorial the other day that listed 22 separate goddamn products. you’re supposed to buy and know how to use 22 different things on your face just for the privilege of being considered lazy and that’s uuuuuuh what’s the word? bullshit.

Really, five products could work, even 3. Just frame the face, eyes, lips, and you’re done.

0 products also works great

because I’m gonna be real here, the idea that 22 products is a minimum sucks but it’s really upsetting that any amount of makeup is the bare minimum at all

I would really just suggest some powder foundation, concealer, mascara and lipgloss/lipstick, or tbh just mascara works too, but that’s up to you

I’m sorry if I didn’t express this clearly enough in the original post but I’m not really looking for more concise makeup regiments. my intention was to point out how it’s Bad that makeup is considered a bare minimum at all, regardless of individual feelings on the matter

no face should be “required” to have “a minimum” of makeup. makeup has no health benefits and does nothing but fill the pockets of companies that prey on women and our insecurities.

makeup should not be seen as hygiene because it isnt. get that shit out of your head.

this post: makeup culture is ridiculous and 22 products should not be considered a minimum requirement for someones face. no one should have to do that

the notes: so like……. what youre saying is……. we need to make the minimum about 5 or 6 instead… i gotcha

Really the only makeup you need is eyeliner but that’s just my personal opinion

okay

where did we lose you

why are people like this

I say this as someone who fucking LOVES playing with makeup; NOBODY EVER NEEDS MAKEUP.

You want to wear makeup? Sure, have fun. But take a moment to consider if you genuinely are doing it for yourself or if you’re doing it because we’ve all been socialised to think it’s necessary.

You want to wear not a damn lick of product on your face or in your hair? Don’t. You don’t owe anyone a “pretty” face.

Watson and I feel that, in order to do our best work, the chemistry needs to be right.

#see THIS is what makes Sherlock in Elementary so unique#a lot of versions of Sherlock#or pretty much Any modern crime drama would have the brilliant detective calling the other detectives ‘idiots’#or ‘amateurs’ or basically insulting their intelligence and ability as detectives#here Sherlock is both acknowledging their skill as detectives and crediting that to their Captain’s leadership#while also acknowledging that he can’t work with them because THEY don’t like him#all the while he is accepting as fair because he’s self-aware to know he’s not easy to work with#there are ways to depict an anti-social genius without being a huge asshole to everyone#and this is it

must have been easier to be alive before news traveled so fast and you were only ever aware of a handful of tragedies instead of thousands and thousands of them being delivered to you on a daily basis. why is there even a question of why our generation is so depressed and anxious like I’ll tell you why?? everything i read breaks my heart and my capacity to empathize and be outraged is absolutely maxed out. yeah i’m sad bitch! we’re all sad! there’s no relief!

I find it fascinating that people who choose not to have children are generally assumed to feel really strongly about not having children (or even to feel really strongly against children, anyone’s children, in general). I am probably not going to have children, not because I REALLY REALLY HATE the idea of having children, but because I don’t really really love it. Out of all the major decisions I will make in my life, this one is the only irreversible one. I can sell a house, quit a job, divorce a spouse, whatever. I cannot unhave a child. I cannot opt out of being a parent once I become a parent. I can’t even take a step back for the sake of self-care or whatever, or else my child will suffer.

So for me, having children is fuck yes or not at all. The default will be to remain childfree. Having children should be an opt-in decision, not an opt-out one. Until/unless I develop really strong feelings about wanting to have children, I won’t have them, even if that means I never end up having them at all.

This is really, REALLY well put.
